My life is nowhere near the “I’ve got it all together” mark.
And that’s seriously okay. I’m 24 years old. I always have my days where I feel like my life is falling apart, or that I should have a better job, or like I should have savings… to name a few things. I think it’s probably normal to feel this way, especially when you see other people your age doing different things than you. Like travelling all over the world, or getting married. (Who is approving your time off and giving you all this money? I want to meet your boss). Anyways, I find myself constantly having to be reminded that it’s totally okay to be running your own race, and that it’s also not a competition. “Having it all together” means different things for different people, and nobodies stories are the same. Nor should they be!
If you, like me; are still finding your way, searching for what you love, and still have no money, fear not!
There is no rule book that says:
You are almost 25. Why haven’t you settled down into a 60k salary and had a wedding?”. The only rule book that pushes that agenda is society, and I am here to tell you the world is going a drastically different direction. Gone are the days where your success is marked solely on your degree. Or, your ability to save up for a house. Or have a wedding ring before you reach 25. Make sure you realise this important fact: How you decide to live your life and progress is your choice, and yours alone. This applies no matter what your age is, but I am directing it mostly at my fellow 20 somethings who feel like they’ve somehow failed because their life isn’t picture perfect. Because I have felt that way, and still feel that way pretty frequently. And it sucks the big one.
Give yourself a break, and grow how you choose to.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Do things because you really love doing them. Find a passion. Quit a job you hate. Your twenties are for learning and adjusting. Do not, I repeat: DO NOT let someone tell you how you should be living your life! Comparison is the thief of joy. I’m not sure who said that, but it’s always been a favorite quote of mine. Because it’s too true. How can you grow into your amazing life if you are constantly comparing it to someone elses? Don’t forget this: We all how our highlight reels. Never the struggles it takes to get there. Every single person has struggles. And bad days. And felt a little lost in their twenties. Go out today and do something that brings you joy. And remember, we’re all winging it over here! Ever struggled with something similar? Let me know in the comments below!
